Dear APHS members, Dear friends and colleagues,
It is my great honor and pleasure to welcome all our old and new friends to join us at the 13th International Congress of APHS, which will take place at the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center, Kaohsiung, Taiwan from 21 to 23 September 2017.
We are extremely delighted that this year, Taiwanese Hernia Society will be the host of the Congress. Taiwanese Hernia Society, founded on 12 April 2007, is relatively young among this community, but we have always been active and present at many international conferences and seminars on hernia during the past decade, among them every APHS event. I see 2017 as a milestone year for this Society, not only because the number of our members exceeds 350, but also we are granted the privilege of hosting such great regional event, we cannot achieve this without the support from each of you.
I especially feel grateful for the efforts of the Congress Chair Prof. Cheng Chung Tsai and APHS President Dr. Anil Sharma, who lead, respectively, the local committee and the Ex-Co of APHS to jointly arrange the 3-day program. I assure you that it will be an impressive one, as so many distinctive expertise, will gather to share their experience and knowledge, networking with peers from other countries and getting more closely connected with new friends and old acquaintances. In addition to the Congress sessions, please consider spending a more few days in this beautiful port city at Southern Taiwan, exploring its unique culture, cuisine, scenery, and friendly people of Kaohsiung.
Looking forward to seeing all of you!
With Best Regards,
Ching Shui Huang

From President Asia Pacific Hernia Society (APHS)- Dr. Anil Sharma
It is with great pleasure that I invite you to the 13th International Congress of Asia Pacific Hernia Society to be held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan between September 21st -23rd 2017.
The Asia Pacific region comprises a majority of inhabitants on our planet today and all cultures, faiths, races and nationalities blend perfectly into APHS to create a harmonious and vibrant organization. The Asia Pacific Hernia society (APHS) has witnessed remarkable exponential growth since its inception in 2004. APHS today is a progressive, expanding Organization that celebrates the huge diversity of its constituents and revels in the plural character of the several countries that comprise and lead the APHS. The main vision and mission of APHS is to advance the art and science of safe hernia practice in our region.
The Annual International Congress of APHS is the showpiece event of APHS that combines state of art hernia academics with lively and engaging social events. It is a time to bond with old friends, make new friends and experience local sights and sounds in the setting of an intensive, stimulating hernia meeting. The Congress shall showcase local and regional expertise and also present contemporary best hernia practices based on current evidence. Herniology is rapidly evolving and several established surgical procedures are being revisited to ensure that hernia practice remains contemporary and responsive.
The Organizing Chairman of the 13th Annual Congress of APHS is Dr.C C Tsai. Dr. Tsai is the present Treasurer of APHS and also the President of the Taiwanese Chapter of APHS. It is envisaged that leading international hernia experts and experts from the Asia Pacific region shall attend and contribute to the scientific content of the congress.
I believe September is a great month to visit Taiwan to witness the immense beauty of Kaohsiung and also the breathtaking countryside in Taiwan. I know that Dr. Tsai and his colleagues are working hard and taking painstaking efforts to ensure that this meeting is memorable and a landmark event in the annals of APHS Congresses. I look forward to seeing all of you and welcome you to Kaohsiung. Do come and partake of the several delights that this charming and hospitable land has to offer.
